It was a last day of Iowa State Fair on August 21st – and we were just there. So much fun. We could actually be one of the 1591 people who lined up in State Farm sponsored red tee shirt on a road to create a world record for highest number of people executing Stop, Drop and Roll fire safety mantra.

I was told that the previous record was made by some 500+ people. I am glad that our collective effort helped us create a record !!

Yes I Do Think I Smell 29 Years Old

One of these days, years pass by so fast and I actually started smelling old. I am 29 today. A couple of days earlier, my wife found a strand of first gray hair in my head – and she was sad. This is a last year of my twenties. Sweet twenties to be accurate. What did I not get in my twenties? I got everything – two degrees, three jobs, wife, money, travel, fun, maturity, self-respect and what not. Although I am not going to lose any of those, I feel very proud of my about to be gone decade !!

Deepak Bajracharya is one of the greatest singers from Nepal who has spent more than two decades of his life in musical career alone. His songs are fabulous. He has more than 250 recorded songs in many albums. This April was a great honor for us to meet him in person and to listen to his songs during a local concert that too in our own our current home town in West Des Moines.

Getting my hands dirty with Android

Lately, I have been busy on my personal project with mobile application development. I have been writing an app for Android based mobile devices. This is the first app I have started to work on so I have chosen a fairly simple yet challenging work – an app for Nepali Lyrics. Sounds simple, but as I get my hands dirty in it as a first learning curve for mobile apps, I not only learn a great deal of good stuffs, but also get challenged at some portions in implementing things that I want to. Programming is not new to me, I have been a java developer for over 5 years now, but android platform is certainly newer. Well, I have now been into a situation where I have started to feel fairly comfortable.

Mobile app is not going to earn my living – I am a full time working professional at a fortune 500 company (that ranks above 120 in the list) – it’s just my hobby, a passion for learning new stuffs and of course contributing a little bit to my country fellows who have android cell phones and planning to have one. What I meant to say is, there are only a handful android apps for contents related to Nepal and Nepali people and I would like to contribute my leisurely efforts towards it.
