Event Day: 16th May 2009

Although it was the 7th yearly cultural show of Asian culture, food and traditions gaga in Des Moines, I was participating in the Asian Heritage Festival for the first time (Nepali community in Des Moines had 3 stalls, so we were a kind of Nepali organizers too). I was trying to get some original contents for my Sanjaal.com portal which is run by a bunch of my family members, so going to this festival was a kind of inspiration for me and my wife either. Also it had been quite a while that I hadn’t met my friends in person at Des Moines which was another reason why we drove west 188 miles to go visit this festival.

In spite of the day being little chilly and cloudy, with thousands of visitors and families you wouldn’t feel the breeze, or you would tend to ignore. This festival was an opportunity for me to have a close observation of many Asian cultures, their clothings and their food. There were lots of countries participating. Nepal, India, Thailand, Korea, China, Indonesia, Japan etc are a few names.

A small beautiful town Pella  in Iowa, which lies around 150 miles west of Quad Cities, celebrates the Tulip Festival every year. In 2009 it was the 74th year of their celebration. Me and Pooja along with our other friends gathered around in Pella on 8th May 2009 to observe the wonderful event. Here are some of the pictures and videos from that event.
