It was the first time I attempted to carve the pumkin
Here is a time lapse video of how me and Pooja carved it.
It was a last day of Iowa State Fair on August 21st – and we were just there. So much fun. We could actually be one of the 1591 people who lined up in State Farm sponsored red tee shirt on a road to create a world record for highest number of people executing Stop, Drop and Roll fire safety mantra.
I was told that the previous record was made by some 500+ people. I am glad that our collective effort helped us create a record !!
Lately, I have been busy on my personal project with mobile application development. I have been writing an app for Android based mobile devices. This is the first app I have started to work on so I have chosen a fairly simple yet challenging work – an app for Nepali Lyrics. Sounds simple, but as I get my hands dirty in it as a first learning curve for mobile apps, I not only learn a great deal of good stuffs, but also get challenged at some portions in implementing things that I want to. Programming is not new to me, I have been a java developer for over 5 years now, but android platform is certainly newer. Well, I have now been into a situation where I have started to feel fairly comfortable.
Mobile app is not going to earn my living – I am a full time working professional at a fortune 500 company (that ranks above 120 in the list) – it’s just my hobby, a passion for learning new stuffs and of course contributing a little bit to my country fellows who have android cell phones and planning to have one. What I meant to say is, there are only a handful android apps for contents related to Nepal and Nepali people and I would like to contribute my leisurely efforts towards it.
Here are a few screenshots of the application that I have developed and currently testing:
I have published a few selected photos from my visit to Pella Tulip Festival this year. I took around 1100 pictures, selected some 150 good shots and have finished doing post processing on only 20% of those. I have uploaded the edited pictures to Sanjaal’s Studio.
The tulips (don’t expect to see the perfect bunches, because this year I focused on shooting dry, weathering and broken tulips) pictures are located here.
Th parade pictures are located here.

It’s tulip time again and I will be in Pella today to enjoy a rich Dutch culture. I will be posting the pictures and videos when I am back to my place which would be sometimes late Sunday. The weather is kind of non-cooperative today, but since I am already here in Des Moines, we will make it to the festival at any cost.
This is a 75th Pella Tulip Time and I hope to have more fun than I did last year.
Time flies by, and it’s time for my MS Graduation. Although I graduated on January 2009 from Maharishi University of Management with a MS degree in Computer Science, I attended the Graduation Ceremony on 27th June 2009.
Maharishi University of Management (MUM) based in Fairfield, Iowa is popular for it’s Consciousness Based Education, I feel proud to be a part of it.
Here are some pictures from that event.
With over hundred individuals from more than 30 families gathered, the Nepali community from Quad Cities area celebrated the Nepali new year 2066 BS (Bikram Sambat) in Fifth Season Hotel, Moline on 11th April 2009. My wife took a special interest in sharing her dancing skills with her friends from the community. Everyone performed well on the stage.
I have posted few selected photographs from the function.
